WHY ECONOMICS

"Economics deals with society’s fundamental problems; it concerns everyone and belongs to all. It is the main and proper study of every citizen”
-Ludwig von Mises

Economics in Action is a course designed for upper-level high school students that teaches the fundamental principles of economics rooted in the decisions of individuals, not statistical aggregates.

ABOUT ECONOMICS

What is Economics?

Economics is a science of reason, not of statistics. It is about understanding the vast implications that can be derived from human action. Using logical deduction, not dry statistical formulas, students can confidently arrive at the “economic laws” that govern acts of human choice.

Why Does it Matter?

All societies must confront the issue of scarcity. Taught properly, economics empowers students to recognize the most efficient means to deal with and allocate scarce resources with alternative uses. History is full of tragic consequences resulting from societies denying the economic realities taught in this course.

Why This Course?

Few students are exposed to economics in high school, and of those many are taught by teachers and textbooks that succumb to common economic fallacies and anti-market biases. Dry, complex statistical modeling often intimidates or discourages students. This course instead uses intuitive truths about human action to enable students to not just arrive at economic laws, but to understand why they must be true.
